Junior Program

 

Football Excellence Program (T1 – T4)

 
Juniors (7&8) Skill Acquisition
 

Years 7 & 8 will focus on the following 4 core skills, delivered over a 27 week period during Terms 1 – 3.

1. First Touch x 20

• Receiving the ball so that the player can execute what they decided to do before the ball arrived

 2. Running With the Ball x 20

• Attacking space

• Drawing a defender

• Moving defenders

• Creating a numerical advantage

• Covering & supporting in defence

• Pressing

 3. 1v1 x 21

Beating a defender and creating space to:

• Shoot

• Cross

• Pass

• Run with ball

• Creating a numerical advantage for the team

 4. Striking the ball x 20

• Passing (to change point of attack, keep possession, eliminate defenders, create a 1v1)

• Shoot (to score goals)

• Crossing (to create scoring opportunities)

 

Instruction will also include the components of positioning and communication, both vital areas in our students’ football development.

Delivery of the lesson

The lessons will be delivered in the following format 3 times per week:
1. Introduction of the skill        15 mins
Practice of the skill in a warm up structure

2. Training of the Skill         25 - 30 mins
Practicing the skill using real progressive game like resistances

3. Training Game          15 - 20 mins
Practicing the skill in small sided games
Students will also be receiving one 70 minute theory lesson per week.

The Junior Football Excellence group will be required to attend one before-school practical instruction session. These sessions will be conducted by our football coaching partners FCI and are a mandatory component of the program.
 
The before school lessons for the juniors will be Thursdays from 07:30 to 08:40. All before school sessions will commence the second weeks of terms 1-3.
