Operation Christmas Child 2016

The Albany Creek State High School students and staff work together with the residents of the Albany Creek AVEO Retirement Village in this endeavour. We have packed 108 shoe boxes with a variety of educational, practical and fun gifts for children in developing countries. This year some supporters of this project created their own gifts to be included in the boxes, including a gentleman from AVEO who spent hours carving wooden animals for the children to play with and Mrs Erica Aptroot from our school, who knitted a range of gifts including beanies and scarfs, gorgeous hand crafted dolls and fabric pencil cases. We presented to the Samaritan’s Purse Organisation a cheque for $450 to go towards the postage for the shoe boxes that were packed. A wonderful group of Year 7 and Year 11 students worked happily together to complete the different phases of this project. This has been a lovely opportunity for our school to work together with other community members, in an effort to help brighten the day of a child who is living in difficult circumstances. When given the chance young people can demonstrate an overwhelming ability to be kind and generous and it has been a privilege to work with these students this year. Thank you to all who provided shoe boxes and gifts for our 2016 Operation Christmas Child effort.
